Why videos? Why don’t you just teach?

from (re)Imagine

Those questions might seem even more relevant as we (hopefully) transition to a post-COVID school year, but the answer remains the same. I teach via video because it is the most effective and efficient means of empowering students to work at their own pace.

I record videos at home, so no student ever has to say I was absent yesterday. What did I miss? Our classroom is an open book, accessible 24/7. Students can replay instructions when necessary, and they learn (or reinforce) a measure of self-reliance in the process.

Yes, students may be screen weary after last year, but Digital Arts is a screen-driven class. The computer is our primary creative tool. I want students to have as stress-free an experience as possible. And working at one’s own pace is an essential part of making that happen.
